The exhibition Datni is a personal, political and poetic reflection on Sámi cultural heritage at the threshold between tradition and contemporary culture by Matti Aikio.
During winter 2022, Aikio was invited to work with historical objects from the museum's collections and commissioned to create a brand new multi-channel video work specifically for this occasion.
The title means tin in Northern Sámi and focuses on textiles with tin wire embroidery, a craft unique to the Sámi.

The exhibition was shown at Västernorrlands museum in spring 2023 and has since travelled to Rørosmuseet in Norway where it has been exhibited as part of the official program for the south Sámi culture festival Raasten Rastah.
Datni is produced with support from The Swedish Finnish Culture Fund.
